We have recently been notified that Farm Table Restaurant in Wake Forest has our name listed on the menu as a local farm they source product from.
This claim is false.
We sold a grand total of SEVEN dozen duck eggs to the restaurant in February of 2015 and there have been no other purchases nor will there be.
We were first made aware of their false advertising using our name in March of 2015. They were serving a dish stating the eggs were sourced from Walk Ahead Farms when they were not. When we confronted Chef Lotah Fields concerning the false claim, he stated someone had given the restaurant duck eggs and they had used them instead of ours as they were cheaper while the menu continued to list our farm as the sole supplier. We instantly demanded our name be removed and refused to do any further business with them. We considered the matter closed.
A few months ago, a Midtown customer approached us stating she had eaten at Farm Table earlier in the week and was excited to see they were sourcing from our farm. She had seen our farm name clearly displayed on their menu, again, without our permission. We quickly explained the situation and contacted the management demanding its removal and as expected, we have received no response. This is a flagrant case of false advertising and lying to consumers to further sales. We have since been told by two other local farms that they have found themselves in a similar situation of not supplying product while their farm names are regularly used in Farm Table advertising and on their menus, both online and in the restaurant.
So as to clear up any possible confusion, at this time we sell our products to one business only, CockadoodleMoo Food Truck. We no longer supply Black Cat Café nor Farm Table with any product, of any kind. Please direct any further inquiries by email to Stephanie, President of Walk Ahead Farms. email@example.com
We hate to share this disheartening news but felt it was important to do so as we did not want any more of our customers or the general public to be misled. The local food movement is very popular, and with good reason, but it has also become a target for manipulation by those who unscrupulously attempt to gain financially by deceiving consumers. This is why we feel it is so important to build a good relationship with your farmers and buy directly from them if at all possible.
We place great value on our work and reputation. We do not take the relationships with our customers lightly and we appreciate the continued support.
