Our animals are cared for using herbal methods that naturally strengthen the immune system enabling the body to properly heal on its own. And believe it or not, many of those 'weeds/herbs' in your own backyard have amazing health benefits for animals and humans alike.
This particular duckling is being treated using an eye wash of plantain tea. The tea is also being added to the drinking water along with a clove of garlic.
Plantain is a common weed that is unfortunately often overlooked but is well-known in history for its medicinal characteristics. It is a powerful blood purifier, killing viruses and bacteria alike. It treats tumors and growths and draws out toxins and poisons when used as a poultice. It has been used used extensively in the treatment of poisonous insect and snake bites! It even kills internal parasites.
Once we became aware of this amazing plant and its many benefits, we began using it on our farm and have been thoroughly impressed. Here are just a few of our experiences:
I myself had an eye condition develop while working in the woods a few years back. I got something on my hands and then wiped my eye without realizing it. Redness, irritation, itching and severe pain soon followed. I made a simple plantain tea, flushed my eye out with it several times per day for a couple of days and the eye cleared with no further problems.
Back when we still used vaccines, we were giving our goats shots when one of them jumped and the needle went completely through the goat's skin and directly into my finger! It was full of an animal vaccine! I quickly rinsed my finger with cold water and found a large plantain leaf. I bruised the leaf and wrapped it around the area, taping it in place. Within an hour, there was no longer any pain or redness. By that evening, there was no sign that anything had ever happened. The poison had been completely drawn out.
My daughter was stung by a fire ant last summer. The bite began to swell and turn red with extreme pain. Again, simple treatment. Picked a plantain leaf, bruised it, covered the bite with the leaf and a band aid. Within an hour, there was no pain, no itching and the swelling was gone. By the next day, there wasn't even a mark!
Plantain is one of the plants used in our herbal worming rotation. This process involves picking fresh leaves, steeping them in boiled water, straining the tea and then drenching our animals with it once it is cooled. The poultry can be given the same treatment but instead of drenching, the tea would be added to their drinking water along with a clove of garlic (another strong antibiotic/anti-parasite plant).
These simple, time-tested and proven processes are being used on our farm every day. And they are a large part of what makes the meat and eggs from our animals as good for you as they are. Naturally, as God intended. Healthier animals result in healthier people. Can't get any simpler than that!
