She was well on her way but still wasn't quite ready to rejoin her buddies when we decided to put her in the brooder with the ducklings for a little company during the final days of her recooperation. She was lonely and they tend to be much less aggressive in nature than chickens.
FYI- there are 32 ducklings and 1 chick in the brooder at this point.
The ducklings were absolutely terrified! They ran circles around the box and would have nothing to do with this invading alien creature! The visitor tried to befriend them but when they would have nothing to do with her after numerous attempts, she decided to enjoy her new found position and began herding the ducklings like a professional cowboy out on the range.
After a few minutes of hilarity with tears flowing down our cheeks, we removed the chick and calm was once again restored.
A little while later, we went back out to check on everyone and all the ducklings were sound asleep, collapsed from exhaustion, trying to rest up from their romp with the scary guest. The chick on the other hand was happily peeping and pecking away in her cage, like she was relishing in the memories of her afternoon escapades, showing no ill-effects of her recent travels at all. I am sure that if it would have been possible, she would have had a smile on her face. Too funny.
